The 85th Annual Red Flannel Hash Dinner was once again delivered curbside. Thank you to organizer Ann Wynia as well as Peter Wynia and all the helpers, bakers, donators, and participants for preparing and distributing 112 meals!

Anne and Neil Marinello won the gift of labor in the Spring Fling Auction. Jay Kelly and Renee Grainger spent time creating a compost area for them. Then they arranged the garden border and built a rock sculpture. It looks like Jay became a living garden sculpture as well!

Walking Group at Billings Farm
“Jack and I “discovered” that we’d been missing the Thursday morning walkers’ group and joined in for a brisk walk from the church, down River Street to Billings where Fran and Ralph had arranged a pass for us all to see the heritage vegetable garden, sunflower maze and walk around the field by the Ottauquechee before heading into the barn to meet the Jersey heifers. Wednesday Poets

Gentle care, lots of hard work, and love go into growing anything. The Woodstock Community Gardens at Billings Farm are no exception.

The second of Pentangle’s “Music by the River” series was on July 31 with Interplay Jazz featuring Elizabeth Frascoia, her father David Westphalen, Samatha Haas, her father Fred Hass and Sabrina Brown. Pentangle’s first concert of their “Music by the River” series with ‘Pete’s Posse’ on July 24th was wonderful! Well attended, well organized and a welcoming venue for music, the North Chapel back lawn.

June 15: Heart of Flowers
There was a lovely opportunity to show our solidarity and our unity at Vail Field. The community came together to lay out a “Heart of Flowers” organized by Jay Kelly.
““My wonderfully creative friend, Jay, made a huge heart of Queen Anne’s lace on Vail Field, inviting us to lay our garden flowers over it. Just across the street are homes built in the 1850’s by a black man. It’s where the black population lived in our village so many years ago. I wish I could send this to all hurtling blacks.””

A Queen Ann’s lace border unfurls
as the foliage heart fills a field.
This symbol is richly outlined by
fearlessly blooming flowers:
poppies of remembrance
rhododendrons of courage
awareness from the Bleeding Hearts
for the black lives taken;
Togetherness exudes from peonies,
contemplations by lilies of the field
and the compassionate daisies.
All are colorfully seeking peace
in their search for love and healing.
June 10: Woodstock Area Playgroup -
Met for a “Physically Distanced and Masked” walk after 3 months hiatus due to COVID-19. In the interim members have been meeting weekly via zoom.
We gathered, we listened, we knelt, and we prayed.
This past week was full of opportunities for our congregation and the greater Woodstock community to respond to the events happening in the world beyond us. Thank you to all who organized, supported and attended these events.
June 9: March of Cars for Black Lives Matter
ArtisTree Community Arts Center and Gina McAllister organized this event. Dozens of cars circled the Green and met for a rally at WUHS. Guest speakers included third grader Tripp Overbay, Rev. Dr. Leon Dunkley, Police Chief Robbie Blish, 102 yr. old activist Jane Curtis, Former NBC News Correspondent Bob Hagger, Windsor County Senator Alison Clarkson. A multi-generational crowd listened and sang together, all standing for justice.
June 7: Vigil for Justice on the Green
In the wake of the terrible events that unfolded over the past week, the North Chapel held a Vigil for Justice for George Floyd on Sunday, June 7 at 2 PM on the Green in Woodstock. Community leaders, clergy and many members of our congregation attended.

June 5: Memorial for Victims of Oppression and Violence
A pop-up memorial in front of North Chapel encouraged community members to bring flowers, candles, and messages to honor all who have suffered due to racial prejudice and systemic societal bias.

Thank you Change the World Kids for another incredible year planting the Food Justice garden at ArtisTree Community Arts Center! It’s a tradition and this year we made sure to follow the physical distancing rules, wear masks and gloves!
