O.W.L. (Our Whole Lives)

What is OWL?our_whole_lives_logo

Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a sexuality education curriculum that helps participants of all ages make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. The program is designed to equip participants with accurate, age-appropriate information about human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, OWL not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but it also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills and understand the emotional and social aspects of sexuality. (For more information on OWL, visit http://www.uua.org/re/owl/).

Details About OWL at the North Universalist Chapel Society (North Chapel)

The North Chapel anticipates that they will be offering an OWL program for 4th, 5th & 6th grade students in the Fall of 2017. The details are being developed (with input from you) but the group will likely meet on Sunday afternoons starting in the Fall of 2017. There will be 6 sessions running between the October 1 and Thanksgiving. Most sessions will last approximately 1.5 hours. The sessions will primarily be held at the UU Church of the Upper Valley in Norwich. There is no cost for participating in the program. All students in the 4th, 5th or 6th grades are invited to attend.

This is an 6-session program for learning about and discussing the physical and emotional changes of puberty. Participants will read It’s Perfectly Normal by Robie H. Harris, and examine topics such as values and sexuality, communication and decision making. Each session includes a HomeLink – a homework activity for parents and children to complete together.

Your Input is Requested

Because we realize that the life of  students (and parents) can be demanding and hectic, we are seeking input from you as to how to best structure our program. We will be developing a Survey Monkey survey that we hope that you will participate in. In the mean time if you are interested in learning more about the OWL program and/or would like to be added to the “interested list” please contact Geraldine at office@northchapelvt.org.

Parent Orientation meeting

We will be offering a Parent Orientation meeting  Sunday, September 24, 2PM at UUCUV. The Parent Orientation meeting will be mandatory for parents who would like their children to participate in OWL. It is an opportunity to learn more about the curriculum, meet facilitators, and decide whether or not OWL is right for you and your child.

If you have any questions or would like more information or would like to be added to the “interested” list, please contact Geraldine Fowler at the North Chapel Office at (802) 457-2557 or email office@northchapelvt.org.
